Quicktips for Music Teachers
Written by Chad Criswell

Do your beginners have problems keeping the beat?  Does it seem that they just don't comprehend the idea of tapping their foot on the beat?  One trick that might help is to not use the traditional countoff of 1-2-ready-go and instead do down-down-ready-go and insist that the students tap their foot to the countoff and music that follows.

Yep. I even have to teach to evenly divide the beat Down, Up, Down, Up.

Lots of kids tap 2 sixteenths DownUp, Downup, etc.
